Student update – Louis Kjerstad

Louis worked in the CT CIC the summer of 2013 as a SURF student working with the O'Brien Urology Research Center, facilitating imaging research on nephrolithiasis studies.

After his time with us and his graduation from college, he joined the Navy and was stationed on the USS Montpelier (a fast attack submarine) based out of New London, CT, for three years. At the end of his tour, he was selected as the Submarine Squadron 4 Junior Officer of the Year from about 180 peers. Since rotating from the submarine, he has been teaching at Navy Nuclear Power School for the past year in Charleston, SC.

While on the submarine, he married his wife April and has a twenty-two month old daughter, Camille. They are also expecting another baby in December! We look forward to seeing where Louis goes next.
