The CT CIC at SPIE 2023

By CT Clinical Innovation Center

From February 19-23, SPIE Medical Imaging 2023 was held in San Diego, California, and a contingent from the CT CIC was there to share findings and learn. Below is a list of a team members who took part, along with links to the proceedings papers and a couple of photos of the action.

Shaojie Chang presented: "PKAID-Net: Prior Knowledge Aware Iterative Denoising Neural Network for Photon Counting Detector CT" (coauthors: Jeffrey F. Marsh Jr, Emily K. Koons, Hao Gong, Cynthia H. McCollough, Shuai Leng)

Joshua Ray Chen presented: "Impact of pulse pileup on single- and multi-energy images from a clinical photon counting detector CT" (coauthors: Timothy Winfree, Michael Bruesewitz, Joseph Swicklik, Jamison Thorne, Shuai Leng, Cynthia McCollough)--no proceedings paper.

Chelsea Dunning (in one of her last acts for the CT CIC, enjoy Boston!) presented: "Classification of high-risk coronary plaques using radiomic analysis of multi-energy photon-counting-detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) images" (coauthors: Prabhakar Shantha Rajiah, Scott S. Hsieh, Andrea Esquivel, Mariana Yalon, Nikkole M. Weber, Hao Gong, Joel G. Fletcher, Cynthia H. McCollough, Shuai Leng)

Hao Gong presented both: "Multi-energy CT material decomposition using Bayesian deep convolutional neural network with explicit penalty of uncertainty and bias" (coauthors: Shuai Leng, Francis Baffour, Lifeng Yu, Joel G. Fletcher, Cynthia H. McCollough) and "Patient-specific uncertainty and bias quantification of non-transparent convolutional neural network model through knowledge distillation and Bayesian deep learning" (coauthors: Lifeng Yu, Shuai Leng, Scott S. Hsieh, Joel G. Fletcher, Cynthia H. McCollough)

Scott S. Hsieh has an especially busy SPIE, presenting a total of four times: "A dense search challenge phantom fabricated with pixel-based 3D printing for precise detectability assessment" (coauthors: Kai Mei, Nadav Shapira, Picha Shunhavanich, J. Webster Stayman, Cynthia H. McCollough, Grace Gang, Shuai Leng, Michael Geagen, Lifeng Yu, Peter B. Noël), "Improvements in dose efficiency with high resolution scan modes in photon counting CT" (lead author: Picha Shunhavanich, coauthors: Kishore Rajendran, Mingdong Fan, Cynthia H. McCollough, Shuai Leng, Lifeng Yu, Scott S. Hsieh), "Real-time single frame tomosynthesis: prototype and radiotherapy applications" (coauthors: Lydia W. Ng, Minsong Cao, Percy Lee), "A training program to reduce reader search errors for liver metastasis detection in CT" (coauthors: Akitoshi Inoue, Mariana Yalon, David A. Cook, Jeff L. Fidler, Hao Gong, Parvathy Sudhir Pillai, Andrew J Vercnocke, Matthew P. Johnson, Shuai Leng, Lifeng Yu, David R. Holmes III, Rickey E. Carter, Cynthia H. McCollough, Joel G. Fletcher)

Zhongxing Zhou also did a double, presenting: "Contrast- and noise-dependent spatial resolution measurement for deep convolutional neural network-based noise reduction in CT using patient data" (coauthors: Hao Gong, Scott Hsieh, Cynthia H. McCollough, Lifeng Yu) and "Evaluation of Low-contrast Detectability of Photon-Counting-Detector CT Using Channelized Hotelling Observer and an ACR Accreditation Phantom" (lead author: Mingdong Fan, coauthors: Zhongxing Zhou, Michael Bruesewitz, Cynthia McCollough, Lifeng Yu)
